Renters Reform – Proposed New and Amended Grounds for Possession

In this Webinar chaired by Donna McCarthy, Anna Bennett and Baljit Basra will discuss the proposed changes to the Grounds for Possession for social landlords which may affect the current different tenure products offered on existing assured shorthold tenancies such as (but not limited to) Market Rent, Rent to Buy, Supported Housing and Temporary Accommodation.

Donna McCarthy, Partner and Head of Housing Management & Property Litigation

Donna is Head of Devonshires’ Housing Management and Property Litigation department.

She has over 30 years’ experience advising on all aspects of housing management law and practice, acting for Local Authorities, Registered Providers and private landlords in complex litigation, including matters in the higher Courts and judicial review actions. She has particular expertise in advising and representing clients on Human Rights, Public Law and Equality Act challenges and following her successes in the higher Court cases of London and Quadrant HT v Patrick [2019] EWHC 1263 (QB) and Forward v Aldwyck Housing Group [2019] EWCA Civ 1334 is particularly noted for her expertise in dealing with claims relating to compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty.

Anna Bennett, Partner, Housing Management & Property Litigation

Anna advises and represents clients on all areas of housing management and property litigation, from nuisance, subletting and bogus succession claims, through to disrepair cases and wider leasehold and boundary disputes.

Outside of litigation, Anna also regularly carries out and reviews tenancies, policies and procedure for her clients.

Anna has a particular interest in working with Housing Co-operatives and the challenges faced by those clients.

Baljit Basra, Partner, Housing Management & Property Litigation

Baljit has extensive experience acting for RPs and LAs having done so for over 20 years. Her work includes dealing with and managing large volume housing litigation claims which include Possession, Disrepair, statutory nuisance, adhoc advice, policy and procedure work, and delivering training to clients on a wide range of housing management topics.
