My journey into corporate law

Newly qualified solicitor Nazneen Patel describes what it’s like to be a trainee at Devonshires and why she is excited to begin her career as a corporate lawyer.

From day one of my training contract, I was given the opportunity to get involved in a variety of matters as well as handle my own caseload. This level of responsibility made the training challenging, but extremely enjoyable and I have felt like a valued member of each team I have joined during my training experience.

There is an open-door culture at Devonshires, with ample support and the ability to work for and obtain advice from people at different levels including Partners who are all very approachable. Devonshires is extremely inclusive and during my training contract I participated in a variety of exciting fundraising activities and social events which allowed me to meet employees from across the firm.

I knew I wanted to pursue a career in corporate law as soon as I began my seat in the practice area. I thoroughly enjoy the variety of the work as no two matters are the same making every day unique and interesting. I especially enjoy working closely with clients, using a commercial and practical approach to achieve their goal whether that is an internal transaction or a structural change such as a merger or joint venture.

Stepping up to solicitor level is truly exciting. As I have already been entrusted with a great deal of responsibility, I am confident I can hit the ground running and I am looking forward to being able to take the lead on new cases.
