Areas of Expertise

Jamie has considerable experience in all aspects of non-contentious construction. He regularly advises clients on high value residential, commercial and retail led developments. He has particular expertise in delivering leisure, affordable housing and student accommodation projects. Jamie’s experience includes drafting and negotiating a wide range of standard form and bespoke construction documentation including building contracts, consultant appointments, performance bonds and parent company guarantees. He is well versed in all industry standard construction contracts including the JCT, NEC and FIDIC suite of contracts.

Jamie also advises on PFI and public private partnership arrangements and regularly acts for contracting authorities and service providers. He works across a broad array of sectors including housing (incorporating student accommodation, co-living and social housing), leisure, education and care. He acts for Registered Providers, private investment companies, leisure operators, contractors, sub-contractors and special purpose vehicles.

Experience

Jamie trained with us before qualifying into the Real Estate and Projects team in October 2016. He has worked on numerous large scale transactions including the development of a stadium and community hub complex in York, the redevelopment and regeneration of a 36 hectare estate in South West London and a £190m section 106 redevelopment scheme in East London. Before joining Devonshires Jamie worked in Parliament as an assistant to the then Minister for Housing and Local Government.

Publications

Jamie has recently had an article published in the Devonshires’ weekly bulletin on the subject of “Preparing for PFI Contract Expiry”.

He also regularly contributes to our Real Estate and Projects ‘IT’S THE LAW’ client briefs.

Education

Jamie graduated from Exeter University with a BA hons in History, before completing his GDL and LPC at BPP Law School in Holborn.

Personal

Jamie is a keen tennis player, golfer and cricketer. He has even been known to open the batting in the annual client cricket match although has yet to significantly trouble the scorers…
