Michael is a commercial and criminal litigation lawyer with an impressive portfolio of international case experience.

He assists in a wide variety of matters concerning dispute resolution and litigation and has worked on a number of high profile matters including SFO fraud cases, issuing Group Litigation Orders against sovereign states and multi-national fraud.

Prior to joining Devonshires in 2023 Michael worked and trained at the specialist litigation firm Richard Slade & Co.

Michael has various passions, including skiing, tennis, rugby, and Brazilian Ju-Jitsu.

Michael also is a member of a theatre, and an improv group. He regularly teaches improv in Surrey.

Notable Cases

SNV & 329 Ors v (1) Mr Moutaz Al Khayyat, (2) Mrnks p Ramez Al Khayyat, (3) Doha Bank. A group litigation, by Syrian citizens now resident in western Europe, against the Defendants for financing of the Al-Nusra Front.

SFO & Anr v LCL & 46 Ors / Re Smith. One of the SFO’s largest fraud trials. The background of the dispute was the concealment of a series of complex offshore transactions procured by bribery.

Flashbird Limited v Compangie de Securite Privee et Industrielle SARL. An appeal to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council from the Supreme Court of Mauritius for breach of contract.

R v Jason Englishby. An indictment under Section 1(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003. The case resulted in a successful verdict of not guilty.

R v Stuart Masters. An indictment under Section 4A(1) and (5) of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. The case resulted in a successful verdict of not guilty.
