Chris spends his time outside the office running after and being a taxi service to his 6 year old twins and 3 year old son and providing well earned respite for his wife, Claire!

Chris advises funders and borrowers on security related transactions in the social and affordable housing sector such as syndicated and bilateral loan financings, private placements, bond issues, group restructurings and large-scale voluntary transfers. Chris is also recognised for his work in the PV/renewables industry, in which he has helped the Council of Mortgage Lenders formulate its guidance.
Prior to joining Devonshires, Chris was a Legal Director at Addleshaw Goddard where he spent 16 years advising on all aspects of housing finance security work. He was their principal property practitioner on their complex or structured loan financings and led their housing finance security charging unit.
Chris is a tier 1 ranked lawyer in the latest edition of Legal 500, in which he has been described by clients as “an unsung hero on the property side”.
He is also ranked as a key individual (Band 2) in the field of Social Housing Finance (UK wide) by Chambers 2017 and “he’s responsive, gets to the point and keeps things simple, which is what lenders want”.
Chris regularly delivers structured training sessions to his clients’ teams.
Chris has led the security teams acting for the funders on many of the recent high value and high profile transactions in the social and affordable housing sector.
Chris participated in the sector working group established to mould the Housing and Planning Act 2016. His knowledge of mortgagee exclusion provisions helped to avoid a significant reduction in funding valuations.
Chris has acted for the funders on numerous transactions relating to consent for the completion of leases/licences providing for the installation of PV panels on 1000s of residential units.
