Areas of Expertise

Jatinder is a Senior Associate in our Housing Management & Property Litigation team.

Jatinder advises Registered Providers and Local Authorities on all aspects of housing and tenancy management, including possession actions, Anti-Social Behaviour injunctions, tenancy fraud, subletting committals, Disrepair & Fitness for Human Habitation claims and EPA actions.

Jatinder also has a strong practice in Shared Ownership and Leasehold matters and regularly advises Registered Providers on shared ownership arrears proceedings, forfeiture, service charge disputes, unauthorised alterations, Japanese knotweed and boundary disputes.

Jatinder also provides non-contentious advice to clients including the drafting of policies and procedures and lease interpretation.


Experience

Prior to joining Devonshires Solicitors, Jatinder was a member of the housing team at Capsticks Solicitors.

Jatinder also previously worked in-house at a G15 Housing Association where he advised on and assisted staff with housing-related legal claims.

Jatinder regularly contributes and writes articles for our Housing Management Brief.


Education

Jatinder graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Jatinder completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Law School, the Bar Vocational Course at City Law School before being called to the Bar in 2010.

Notable Cases

Gateway Housing Association v (1) Personal Representatives of Ali (deceased) and (2) Begum [2020] EWCA Civ 1339. Jatinder was successful on behalf of the landlord in the Court of Appeal

Jatinder successfully acted on behalf of a Registered Provider in relation to a complex disputed shared ownership arrears case in which the arrears were in excess of £100,000.00.

Jatinder recently successfully acted on behalf of a Registered Provider in the FTT following a challenge brought by a group of tenants disputing the service charges under their Tenancy Agreements.
