Areas of Expertise

Lewis is an Associate in the Construction Engineering & Procurement team, specialising in contentious construction matters.

Lewis has extensive experience navigating High Court (TCC) Litigation (acting for both Claimants and Defendants), arbitration and complex adjudications. He is frequently instructed by both employers and contractors, providing a dual perspective that is invaluable in high-stakes disputes under JCT, NEC and other common forms of contracts, as well as bespoke construction agreements.  His recent work includes landmark instructions under the Building Safety Act 2022, alongside technical expertise in building defects, delay and disruption, loss and expense and high-value termination disputes.

Lewis also has expertise in dealing with various forms of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and expert determination.

Experience

Lewis spent two years as a Paralegal in the Construction department prior to commencing his training contract at Devonshires. 

Lewis qualified into the Construction department in 2023.

Education

Lewis Graduated from the University of Leeds with a 1st in Politics, before completing his GDL and LPC at BPP. 

Personal

Lewis personal interests include travel, golf, motorsports and scuba-diving.

Notable Cases

Acted for Claimants in multi-party proceedings bought in the Technology and Construction Court for remedies in contract as well as the Building Safety Act 2022. Issues included recover of damages in relation to fire safety defects, coverage issues under Professional Indemnity policies and building warranties. 

Acted for the Employer in a high-stakes adjudication concerning a 500-day Extension of Time claim by the Contractor, together with a claim for Loss and Expense worth £2.4m under a JCT Design and Build 2016.

Advising on the termination of a number of bespoke development agreements for a major multi-phase London project following significant contractor delay requiring complex advice on termination triggers and the subsequent recovery of losses across multiple interdependent phases.
