Patrick joined Devonshires in September 2021 and advises on a wide range of contentious construction matters. Patrick has experience in acting on behalf of Employers, Contractors and Sub-contractors across a breadth of construction disputes.

Experience

Prior to joining Devonshires, Patrick trained at a practice based in the City of London and thereafter worked at a Legal 500 recognised firm situated in the West End where he was heavily involved in acting for clients in a variety of contentious construction matters, including adjudications (for example payment provision disputes and contested termination), litigation proceedings in the Technology and Construction Court, as well as acting for clients in mediations.

Education

Patrick was awarded an entrance scholarship to study History at the University of Reading. Having graduated in 2013 Patrick went in to study both his GDL and LPC at BPP Law School in London, gaining a commendation and distinction respectively.

Personal

Outside of work, Patrick is a very keen sportsman and has a particular interest in rugby, cricket and football (in which he is a life-long Liverpool supporter).

Patrick also likes to consider himself a (semi) competent runner and he is due to participate in the 2022 London Marathon next October.

Notable Cases

Successfully defending an offshore based Employer in three successive multi-million pound adjudication proceedings brought against it by a contractor seeking payment for works purportedly carried out to a high-end Property based in Mayfair, London.

Successfully acting on behalf of a sub-contractor in adjudication proceedings following the contractor’s wrongful termination of a JCT Intermediate Building Contract pertaining to works being carried out at a large residential development in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

Representing a Contractor in concurrent adjudication proceedings; one a Final Account adjudication regarding works carried out to commercial premises situated in Central London, and the second a smash-and-grab adjudication regarding works to premises in South-West London in accordance with the terms of an oral contract. Agreed favourable settlement terms for the client prior to Decisions being issued in each adjudication.

Acting on behalf of two high net worth individuals in a claim against one of the UK’s most reputable developers arising out of defective works carried out to a new high-end specification residential development in Bath.

Successfully acting on behalf of a construction logistics company in a payment dispute against one of the UK’s largest privately owned contractors regarding our client’s provision of labour to various construction projects across the UK being operated by the contractor. Obtained a favourable settlement for our client at a one-day mediation.
