Areas of Expertise

Ellie is an Associate in our Construction, Engineering and Procurement team specialising in contentious construction matters.

Ellie has experience of mediation, High Court litigation and adjudication. Ellie acts for employers, developers and architects on contentious matters. Ellie regularly advises in relation to insurance matters most commonly building warranty claims and claims under professional indemnity policies.

Ellie also advises a variety of clients in relation to their obligations under current and upcoming fire safety legislation.


Experience

Ellie was previously a construction paralegal at a large City law firm prior to undertaking her training contract at Devonshires. Ellie qualified into the Construction, Engineering and Procurement team in 2021.


Education

Ellie graduated from the University of Leeds with a first-class honours degree in Politics. After graduating from Leeds, Ellie completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP in Holborn. She went on to study the LLM LPC at BPP in Waterloo.

Notable Cases

Defending High Court proceedings brought by the main contractor in relation to issues of delay, loss and expense, defects and retention.

Acting for Claimants in multi-party proceedings brought in the Technology and Construction Court for remedies in contract as well as the Building Safety Act 2022. Issues include recovery of damages in relation to fire safety defects, coverage issues under various different Professional Indemnity policies and building warranties.

Acting for a large, well known Registered Provider in relation to a portfolio of circa 140 buildings, advising on third party recovery for defective works pursuant to building contracts, development agreements, professional appointments, collateral warranties, NHBC policies, professional indemnity insurance policies, the Defective Premises Act 1972 and the Building Safety Act 2022.

Acting for Claimants in Struthers & Anr v Davies (t/a Alastair Davies Building) & Anr [2022] EWHC 333 (TCC) concerning issues of termination, defective works and quantum.
