Job purpose
Working as part of the Finance department, the main duties of the role are ensuring the cashier function (which comprises of eight team members including this position) and service provided runs smoothly and accurately and ensuring records are kept up to date daily.
The team
Devonshires has been based in the City of London for more than 150 years. From our offices in London, Leeds, Birmingham, and Colchester we provide legal services throughout England and Wales. Our clients range from some of the world’s largest multi-national corporations to private individuals. We act for a significant number of charities, housing associations and Regulators. We would describe ourselves as “full service” with specialists in Commercial/Corporate, Civil Litigation, Housing, Employment, Real Estate & Projects & Property Development. Duties and responsibilities
This is not an exhaustive list and from time to time it may be necessary to vary these to meet the department and business needs.
- Assisting the cashier team as and when required to meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
- Assisting with the day-to-day office account chaps & bacs payments.
- Processing supplier invoices through the system for approval and payment.
- Adding PO numbers to clients bills.
- Assisting the Cashier Supervisor with accounting functions, queries and requests.
- Providing cover for team members during busy periods and annual leave.
- Carrying out tasks and projects as requested from the Operations Manager from time to time.
- Utilising the firm’s Accounting System to its fullest to make the cashier function more efficient and cost effective.
Person specification
Essential requirements
- At least five years’ experience as a legal cashier in a law firm;
- Excellent knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules;
- Minimum of three 4-9 (or equivalent) grades at A Level;
- Excellent Excel skills as well as good all round Microsoft Office skills;
- Experience of Legal Accounts software such as Partner 4 Windows;
- Good time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload;
- A flexible approach to ensure all deadlines are met;
- Must be able to work as part of a team and possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal;
- Ability to work without supervision, engage with the work you are undertaking and show initiative in your work;
- A high attention to detail to produce work/documentation which is consistently of a high standard;
- You will be a polished and professional individual who is confident in dealing with partners and other members of the senior management team and external advisors;
- Desire to excel within an Accounts environment;
- Enthusiasm to contribute ideas in order to improve the cashiering function and the overall Accounts function.
Desirable requirements
- AAT or higher;
- Managed relationships with banks and assisted COFA with their responsibilities;
- Knowledge of Partner 4 Windows.
