Job Purpose
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Cashier to support our busy Housing Management & Property Litigation department. This role is integral to ensuring the smooth financial operation of the department, with a focus on resolving invoice queries and supporting fee earners with financial processes. The ideal candidate will have experience in a legal or professional services environment and a strong understanding of billing and disbursement procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
This is not an exhaustive list and from time to time it may be necessary to vary these to meet the department and business needs.
- Invoice Management:
- Prepare and issue client invoices in accordance with agreed billing schedules and client requirements.
- Process and issue credit notes where necessary.
- Liaise with fee earners to ensure accurate time recording and billing narratives.
- Query Resolution:
- Investigate and resolve invoice and billing queries promptly and professionally.
- Act as a point of contact between the Housing Management & Property Litigation team and the Finance department.
- Disbursement:
- Monitor and manage disbursement balances, ensuring timely allocation and recovery.
Person Specification
Essential requirements
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a similar finance or accounts role, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Minimum of three A-C grades at A Level (or equivalent);
- Excellent knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules;
- Strong understanding of legal billing processes;
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with legal finance systems (e.g., Elite, Aderant, Partner 4 Windows, or similar) is advantageous;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues and clients;
- Good time management with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment;
- A flexible approach to ensure all deadlines are met;
- Ability to work without supervision, engage with the work you are undertaking and show initiative in your work;
- You will be a polished and professional individual who is confident in dealing with partners and other members of the senior management team and external advisors;
- Desire to excel within an Accounts environment;
- Enthusiasm to contribute ideas in order to improve the cashiering function and the overall Accounts function.
Desirable requirements
- AAT or higher;
- Managed relationships with banks and assisted COFA with their responsibilities;
- Knowledge of Partner 4 Windows.
