Services
Since 1998, we have been helping organisations deal with inquests and inquiries that follow unexpected deaths, serious incidents and failures in a variety of circumstances, including care. Our clients come to us at difficult moments, when they face close public and regulatory scrutiny and need clear, confident support.
We work with a diverse range of clients, including housing and care providers, health and social care organisations, local authorities, justice and custodial services, the military and construction businesses. Many matters involve overlapping investigations by coroners, regulators, the police and other agencies, together with the risk of civil claims or criminal proceedings. We help you understand that wider picture and decide what to do next.
Our team has extensive knowledge and experience in both inquests and health and safety law. We prepare boards, senior leaders and witnesses, coordinate responses across multiple investigations and help you manage legal, operational and reputational risk. We also support with independent reviews and learning exercises, so you can strengthen governance and reduce the risk of future incidents.
We advise on the full range of issues that arise before, during and after inquests and inquiries. Our work includes:
At every stage, we focus on what you need to do next, the risks you face and the practical steps that will put you in the strongest position.
Our Inquests & Inquiries team is led by partners Samantha Grix, Nikki Bowker, Pauline Lépissier and Kathryn Kligerman - each bringing a distinct area of expertise. Together they provide experienced oversight across a wide variety of sensitive and high‑stakes matters.
Samantha Grix leads on inquests in housing, care, social care, healthcare and education settings, acting primarily for service providers and local authorities.
Nikki Bowker and Pauline Lépissier specialise in military and historical cases, advising witnesses in complex matters with potential for subsequent prosecution, as well as cases involving deaths in custody and high‑risk regulatory scrutiny.
Kathryn Kligerman leads our health and safety work, supporting clients following fatalities linked to property, construction or contractor incidents and advising on the intersection between inquests, investigations and prosecution risk.
We also work closely with our specialist Care Team and colleagues in health and safety, construction, regulation and dispute resolution. This allows us to build teams around each matter that reflect your sector, your risk profile and the practical realities your organisations face.
If you are dealing with an inquest or inquiry, or you are concerned about an incident that may lead to one, we can help you plan your response, support your people and make sure your organisation is prepared at every stage.
