James specialises in commercial litigation and construction dispute resolution and has experience in acting for many groups within the construction industry, including developers, contractors, sub-contractors, lenders, housing associations and also some private clients.


Experience

James trained at Shoosmiths LLP and on qualification joined Goodman Derrick LLP as an Associate Solicitor in the Dispute Resolution and Construction department before moving to Devonshires’ Construction, Engineering & Procurement team in October 2018.


Education

James graduated from Durham University (Grey College) with a BA in Sport Sciences, before completing his GDL and LPC (combined as an LLB) at Nottingham Law School.

James is a member of the Society of Construction Law.

Notable Cases

Settled a significant and sizeable debt recovery matter for a sub-contractor in a long-standing dispute with a major international construction organisation.

Representing a private client in pursuing a claim against the Main Contractor and its Insurer in the TCC. The claim is in respect of the extensive and long-standing defective works to our client’s home.

Advising a number of prominent Registered Providers of Social Housing in relation to various disputes with either the Employer or the Main Contractor, relating to major defective works on the developments and specifically, inadequate fire-stopping and other such associated defects on several housing developments in Greater London.

Representing a sub-contractor in defending a large multi-party dispute in the TCC (c. £30m claim).
