Areas of Expertise

Jane advises on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law.

She defends employment tribunal claims on behalf of her clients and deals with day to day HR queries. Jane also reviews and drafts contracts of employment, policies and staff handbooks.

Jane also deals with pensions, specifically the Local Government Pension Scheme and the Social Housing Pension Scheme. Jane has advised clients in relation to the closure of such schemes to future accrual of benefits and strategies for the management of their financial liabilities within these schemes.

Additionally, Jane provides employment and pensions support to the Corporate, Banking and Property teams, including advising on the application of TUPE, completing employment and pensions due diligence and providing pensions support on bond issues.


Experience

Jane joined Devonshires Solicitors as a paralegal in 2009 before commencing her training contract at the firm in 2011. As part of her training contract, Jane spent a year in the employment and pensions department before qualifying there.


Education

Jane graduated from the University of Leeds with a BA in Sociology, before completing her GDL and LPC at the College of Law in Guildford.


Additional Work

Jane is a founding member of the Devonshires Solicitors Corporate Social Responsibility Committee and has organised and participated in a number of initiatives including a biannual mock interview scheme and a numeracy scheme with a local primary school.

Jane participates in the City University professional mentoring scheme, in which she mentors a law student and aspiring solicitor.

Notable Cases

Jane acted on a high profile case concerning a Constructive Unfair Dismissal claim brought by the former Chief Executive of a small Registered Provider. At a preliminary hearing Jane prepared a successful application to strike out the claim, saving her client the legal costs of defending the claim to a full merits hearing.

Jane has provided pensions support to the Banking team on a number of bond issues, including Paragon Housing Group, Swan Housing Association and the Riverside Group.

Jane advised the Trustees of a pension scheme as to the treatment of Registered Providers’ pensions liabilities in circumstances of group restructures and insolvency.
